Since Formula One had to abandon its Middle Eastern Grand Prix earlier this year due to ongoing conflict in that region, the 2026 calendar was left with 22 races instead of the normal 24. Well, to fill in one of those two gaps, Malaysia stepped in to take the position of the Bahrain Grand Prix for this year. Here’s everything you need to know.
The Malaysian Grand Prix race weekend will be held from October 2nd through the fifth, in between the Azerbaijan and Singapore Grand Prix. Originally, this race appeared on the calendar in 1999, with the last race being 9 years ago in 2017, where Max Verstappen dominated with Lewis Hamilton in second and our beloved Daniel Ricciardo in third.
Sepang International Circuit has 15 turns and 8 straightaways. The way it’s designed screams motorsports artistry, it’s so alluring and unique!
What is so appealing about Malaysia this year to all different types of fans (myself included) is that it’s an entirely new experience for so many viewers to spectate, and not only will it be many of our first times seeing Sepang in action, but quite a few of the drivers who are more experienced on the grid haven’t even raced here! With a race calendar so set into stone, the fact that drivers like George Russell, Lando Norris, and Charles Leclerc haven’t driven here is quite thrilling!
Malaysia holds a whole new level of difficulty and challenge that will be both intoxicating and terrifying at the same time! I personally can’t wait to see what this gorgeous track has in store for new and experienced drivers alike. Maybe we’ll even see an underdog rise above what he’s known to dominate a fresh track!
