The many special liveries of Silverstone

Article by Finley Ever

For the Silverstone Grand Prix, many teams and drivers decided to go all out. Crazy art ideas and thoughtful stories made their way onto the cars and helmets for England.

Cadillac

Since Silverstone falls on the Fourth of July in America, the American team felt like they had to honor their US roots in a small but impactful way. Cadillac opted for their car livery to be red, white, and blue, just like the iconic colors of the US flag.

Both Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez creating special helmets inspired by the colors that ring freedom throughout the nation! Valtteri’s even has a patriotic eagle on the front!

McLaren

McLaren decided to give us one of the most gorgeous liveries they have ever done this weekend. The British team rebranded their iconic M2B race car from 1966 and modernized it in partnership with Google Gemini. Sleek chrome and racing green really is a color combination I could never get sick of.

To bring this whole look together, British driver Lando Norris decided to take his normal helmet but make it a tad bit extra for his home race. Instead of his normal black blobs, he went with silver. A small touch that adds mighty detail! He also included a small design of the British flag in gold behind the gold number one on the top of his helmet! A reminder of where he hails from and what title he holds.

As If McLaren couldn’t get any cooler this weekend, we then throw Oscar Piastri into the mix! Oscar is set to wear three separate helmets this weekend. In a collaboration contest with McLaren’s sponsor, Google Gemini, visual, digital, and fine artists competed to design Gemini-esq race helmets. Three artists won so Oscar is set to wear each of their designs across Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of the British campaign!

Carlos Sainz

Williams makes a brief appearance on this list with their smooth operator Carlos Sainz, who created a special race helmet this week inspired by his own Spanish version of James Bond! In the reveal video posted on his Instagram, Carlos orders something at a restaurant as “5, Mr. 55”. The waiter then brings out Carlos’ beautiful Silverstone helmet. Metallic red with a Beautiful ‘F’ of the side for ‘Fifty-Five’, this truly is a classy and sophisticated helmet that you can’t look away from!

Rumors are circulating that this gorgeous rebrand of Fifty-Five is to announce Carlos’ own lifestyle brand that shares a name with his racing number! We can only hope. With the outstanding dating advice Carlos has given us on multiple occasions via “Ask Carbono” on Williams’ YouTube, we could all use a bit of the Spaniard’s lifestyle and mentality!

Arvid Lindblad

Arvid Lindblad is the only rookie on the 2026 grid, and he just so happens to be from Virginia Water, Surrey! Making Silverstone the home race of the 18-year-old. In honor of his first home race in F1, Arvid made a very important and sentimental helmet. White like paper with drawings that seem to be made with Crayons, this helmet signifies how Arvid was once a kid who dreamed of the things he’s accomplishing now! The back of the helmet reads in red writing, “My path, My way, Dream big”. What a huge honor and success for Arvid to be where he is! I hope he can make his family, friends, and himself proud this weekend.

Silverstone is a huge and important weekend for everyone involved in Motorsports. It being the birthplace of F1 76 years ago really does show how years of history and tradition mold together to create a passion inside each of these drivers, and it will surely be a race to miss this year with the championship battle getting heated up, as well as all these amazing concepts for livery that have come into fruition for England!
