From each other’s WAGs to each other’s fiancés

Lily Muni He and Alex Albon seal the deal!

Article by Lara Murakami

Lily Muni He and Alexander Albon are engaged! Both stars in their respective sports, golfing, and of course, Formula One, the two have made an illustrious pair for the past 6..7… years. (I apologize – Finley, take this out if you want.)

Although I love most of the WAG and driver pairings (sorry Lando), Lily and Alex have always held a special place in my heart. The lives they show us via their content are so glamorous, but manage to remain down-to-earth and hilarious.

On a deeper note, as someone with Asian heritage myself, I love seeing them bring representation to the community (even if they’re just out living their best lives and they happen to also be gorgeous Asians.)

Alex and Lily announced their happy news via a collab Instagram post on January 16th, as shown in the picture at the beginning of this article. The two are captured smiling in a Polaroid frame, captioned by the phrase “Guess we’re stuck with each other now.”

Lily is flashing a gorgeous ring, but I’d say it’s their brilliant smiles that really shine in the picture. (cringe but I can’t help it ok) Their relationship gives “I like shiny things, but I’d marry you with paper rings” so much to me. When I first saw the post, I was so excited that I audibly gasped in a silent classroom at school. And that’s for me being totally nonchalant…

F1 drivers Yuki Tsunoda, Franco Colapinto, Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Alex’s Williams teammate Carlos Sainz, Charles Leclerc, (and probably others I missed) flooded the pair’s comment section with congratulatory messages. These two seem to be very well-liked indeed!

Although, I did notice that Alex’s best friend on the grid, George Russell, failed to comment. I hope everything is good between Galex, and George hurries up and proposes to Carmen so the two pairings can become old married couples together.

Now for a bit more context onto who Alex and Lily are, and how they consistently support one another, especially as professional athletes who travel the world.

If you’re reading this, I think you’re probably familiar with Alex Albon, but if not, here’s a mini refresher. One of the 2019 rookies, dominant in the junior series, and a Brit who races under the Thai flag for Williams, Alex is super likeable and one of the more underrated drivers of the paddock.

Now, what about Lily’s background? (That’s what the fans want to see…)

Now 26 years old, Lily was born in Chengdu, China, but grew up in San Diego, California. That makes a lot of sense to me; she really gives effortless California girl glamour.

I found this really old picture of her from the 2016-17 golf season, when she was a freshman at University of Southern California! Clearly, she’s always been gorgeous.

Disclaimer before we head into discussing Lily’s golf career, y’all have to understand that I know nothing about golf other than what’s shown in Happy Gilmore, so the terminology doesn’t make the most sense to me. But I’ve tried to explain it as clearly as possible.

According to what I could find online, Lily started out playing collegiate golf at USC, then joined the LPGA Tour in 2019. (She and Alex were both rookies in the same year, which is part of why they connected!)

Lily now has 9 top-25 finishes in the LPGA tour, and competed in 13 LPGA Tour events in 2025. She earned a season-best of T21 at the Mexico Riviera Maya Open in May, finishing 133rd in the Race to the CME Globe.

If you ARE familiar with golf terminology, I hope I didn’t butcher anything, but the point still stands. Lily Muni He is a high-level golf player who can hold her own as a formidable athlete, even without her WAG Alex.

Outside of golf, Lily works as a fashion model. Along with being absolutely stunning in her own photos, she’s certainly helped Alex improve in his fashion sense. I genuinely use Alex as a reference of the girlfriend effect because the glow-up from Blondex to now is something to be applauded.

Lily and Alex met over social media and started dating in their rookie year; 2019. Lily’s friends encouraged her to start watching Drive to Survive (btw new season out February 27 – I’m so excited to see Lando’s maiden championship season!). Lily’s friends wanted her to get out of the “slump” she was in by watching the drama-filled lives of athletes in another high-pressure sport.

Lily binge-watched the show in a day and started following some drivers on social media, including Alex (celebrities; they’re just like us). At the same time, Alex had started to get into golf, so he followed her back.

The two connected online and started talking on the phone, until they met for the first time in LA, following the Austin GP, and played some golf.  It was really coincidental that they both gained an interest in each other’s sports at the same time, but I’m sure that they’re very grateful for it.

Now, Lily and Alex are often spotted together at both golf tournaments and the F1 paddock, always cheering each other on in style.

Alex credits a lot of their emotional connection to their understanding of each other, particularly as professional athletes. He said, “We’re both athletes. We understand and we get each other. We started our sports as rookies, and we’ve gone through tough times together.”

I wish Lily and Alex so much happiness together, and I hope they continue blessing my feed with their many adventures!. First Charles and Alex, now Alex and Lily. Wedding fever is in the paddock. (I hope George and Carmen are next…)
