Ola, senhoras e senhores and welcome to the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, a determining race in the title for world champion. With Lando Norris now back in the lead for the WDC, now is the time for him to extend his point gap from his teammate, Oscar Piastri. Now with a very stressful but entertaining Sprint Race out of the way, in which Lando won from Pole Position while his teammate received a DNF after crashing into the barrier, Lando has been fortunate enough to elongate the gap from second by much further than one point! A win in Sao Paulo will extend that gap even further!

the race
It’s lights out and away we go racing in Brazil! 71 laps of madness are now commenced! Kimi Antonelli doesn’t receive the launch off the starting line that he was aiming for, but he’s able to keep Charles Leclerc behind! Lando holds onto first! Farther back, Kiwi Liam Lawson passes George Russell for 6th. Once the stress at the front of the pack subsides, farther back on the grid it’s just getting started! Not even a full lap into his home race, Brazilian rookie Gabriel Bortoleto makes contact with the wall, sending out a yellow flag. The flag turns into a Safety Car. Upon video reviewing, the reason for Gabi’s wreck becomes clear. The rookie was right behind the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, who went wide, causing Gabriel to barely tap the front of his car against the behind of the Canadians’. Before the Safety Car was issued, Lewis Hamilton attempted to pass the Alpine of Franco Colapinto. His efforts were not rewarded, though. Instead of gaining a position, Lewis and Franco banged together, causing quite a bit of debris into turn 15. Speaking of Alpines, farther up in the rankings Haas rookie Oliver Bearman smoothly passes Pierre Gasly for 8th! Fresh off of receiving a personal best in Mexico City of 4th place, Oliver has much renewed confidence after such a tricky welcoming year into the sport!
4 laps later, the Safety Car ends and we’re racing at full speed once again! Lando takes off, fleeing from a crime scene before it’s even committed. “What crime?” You may ask? Well, Oscar Piastri, 4th, is attempting to intervene in an already ongoing battle for second between Kimi and Charles! Oscar moves around the inside of the Italian rookie, but Kimi leaves him no room to get by, which results in the Aussie hitting the 19-year-old, who then spins and knocks Charles off of his racing line! Charles goes off the track! After one of his tires becomes completely severed from the car, it’s clear that quite a lot of irreversible damage has been done. Charles drops in the ranking to take dead last of the remaining 19 drivers. He then retires his car and sends out a second Safety Car. Oscar, however, seeming to have been the one to cause the collision, made it out unscathed! He resides in P2 next to his teammate in first at the moment! But his second position bliss doesn’t last very long! The FIA has issued him a 10-second time penalty for causing a collision.
Farther back on the grid, Red Bull driver Yuki Tsunoda attempts to pass an Alpine, but ends up grazing its side, then going on to hit Lance Stroll in front of him. Much like Oscar, Yuki receives a 10-second time penalty for causing a collision.
In lap 7, Max Verstappen heads into the pit lanes. His race engineer tells him the reason for the early stop was a tire puncture, which is now fixed due to Red Bull’s incredible pit crew!
Now in lap 8, the second SC is ending! Now within close reach to first due to the Safety Car bunching everyone up, Oscar has a real shot at claiming first from his teammate before heading to the pits to serve his time! Through the first couple of turns of this curvy track, Lando holds onto the lead, but Oscar is quite large in his mirrors at the moment! A few grid places behind, George Russell passes Liam Lawson for 5th. George is able to clear the second Racing Bulls of Isack Hadjar in lap 12 to take 4th position behind his teammate, Kimi Antonelli, in third.
In lap 13, many late braking moves are perfectly executed! First, Oliver Bearman passes Liam Lawson for 6th. Then, Max Verstappen swiftly overtakes Lewis Hamilton for 15th position.
In lap 18, many drivers make their way into the pit lane, which bumps a 19th position starter into the points! Max Verstappen takes P9 as he passes Fernando Alonso. 3 laps later, Max is already in 6th! Well, make that 5th! He passes Alexander Albon and makes his way into the top 5. Heading into the same turn that Max just passed Alex, Nico Hulkenberg also makes an overtaking move on Yuki Tsunoda for 8th position!
Now 34 laps into the race, Nico yet again passes another driver! This time, it’s the Williams of Alex Albon for P6! What a fantastic drive from the first time podium finisher earlier this year in Silverstone!
The excruciating wait is finally up for the Man from Melbourne. It’s now time for Oscar Piastri to serve his 10 second penalty in the pit lane. What makes these types of penalties so nauseating is the fact that McLaren’s pit crew has to wait 10 seconds before they can even begin to work on Oscar’s car. 10 seconds doesn’t seem like a lot, but to a group of workers who are used to putting on whole new sets of tires in less than three seconds, it is! After what seems like hours of sitting in the pit, Oscar returns to the race, now in 8th. The current lineup is Lando in first, Kimi in second, and George in third.
In lap 49, Oliver makes another smooth overtake. This time he passes the other overtaking champion of this race, Nico Hulkenberg! Oliver to 7th.
Within the next few laps, the top contenders for the win pit. Lando Norris pits and loses first to none other than Max Verstappen! What a drive from the Dutchman! But in lap 55, the Red Bull team makes quite an interesting decision. They have their now race leading driver box yet again, which gives first back to Lando! He also misses out on 3rd to young Kimi! He exits in fourth. Oscar Piastri, now P6, passes Liam Lawson for 5th position.
In lap 63, Max Verstappen, who started in second to last in the pit lane, activates DRS and passes George Russell for 3rd like the World Champion he is! Pitlane to the Podium! What a Simply Lovely drive!
After receiving every. Single. Title. That he could get this race weekend, starting with the fastest in practice, then Sprint Pole, followed by the Sprint win, then Provisional Pole, Lando Norris rounds out his winning streak with securing the win in Brazil! Lando Norris wins the Sao Paulo Grand Prix! What an amazing weekend to show his doubters who the boss is! But that’s not the only immaculate victory that is being celebrated this Sunday! Kimi Antonelli, the young Italian teenager who received P3 in the Canadian Grand Prix earlier this year, takes his personal best and makes it even better! He finishes the race in second position after a long stint of trying with all his might to keep a ruthless Max at bay! And of course, the pit lane legend himself, Max Verstappen rounds out our podium with a fantastic drive filled with cinematic overtakes and perfectly strategized pit stops!
In a post race interview, Lando is asked how he kept his head on straight with all the pressure surrounding this weekend. He replies that to focus you just “Ignore everyone that’s talking crap about you!” Inspirational words from an inspiring driver!
