the british grand prix

Hello everyone and welcome to the 2025 British Grand Prix at the beautiful Silverstone Circuit. This famous circuit was raced for the first time way back in 1950, the first race ever held in Formula 1. For the 75th anniversary of Silverstone, four-time world champion Max Verstappen starts from pole position. He is followed by heir apparent for the title of world champion, Oscar Piastri. Hometown hero Lando Norris follows his McLaren teammate in third position.

the race

The rain decided it would be a great time to show up! It looks like this race is going to be a wet one! Rookies have a history of losing control over their cars in these conditions so it will be interesting to see how well they perform after 11 races in F1!

As the drivers complete the formation lap, it’s made evidently clear that slick tires will be necessary. Before lining up in their grid positions, Charles Leclerc and George Russell make their way into the pits to get the tires they need before the race even starts. So they will both start this Grand Prix from the pit lane.

It’s lights out and away we go! Max Verstappen quickly loses traction and Oscar Piastri gains on him! The Dutch driver is able to regain control and hang on to the lead. The top four maintain their places, but Alpine driver Pierre Gasly has already climbed up 3 positions in less than a lap! He is now 5th.

3 laps later, Brazilian rookie Gabriel Bortoleto follows in similar footsteps to Liam Lawson and spins off the road. He crashes into the pit wall and has to retire his car. Safety car is deployed.

Under the safety of the Safety Car (pretty accurate name I would say!) Lance Stroll enters the pit lane to change into some slick tires. Currently P12, hopefully these new tires can help him gain a few positions!

One lap later, Max is still holding on to the lead, but not without difficulty! At this point, the ground is now pretty slick with rain. Max makes quite a wide turn and slides a little bit! He was very close to letting Oscar pass him, but not quite! A couple turns later, the rivals enter a straight. Oscar Piastri passes the Red Bull with much ease and takes the lead! Papaya to the front of the field!

3 laps after Oscar’s big overtake, the rain starts, making conditions even more difficult than they already are. Piastri holds onto first, but the two cars behind him start to battle! Lando Norris tries to go around the outside and take 2nd from Verstappen but is unsuccessful. Norris currently has the better tires out of the pair, and Max knows it, but despite knowing that the overtake is bound to happen, he clings to 2nd in true Max fashion. In the next turn, he slips and takes Lando’s role as the F1 lawnmower for a brief second! Just enough time for Lando to drive right past the struggling Red Bull car and claim 2nd position for himself! Lando to 2nd!

12 laps into the race, the top 6 drivers head into the pit to change their tires. Lando has quite a slow pit stop, which results in Max reclaiming second position.

1 lap later, Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc slips off the track and drives into the gravel at the Becketts Corner. He luckily has a straight shot through the grass and reenters the race!

The conditions for this Grand prix are just too wet. The water spray that each car leaves behind is less like a spray and more like a full out waterfall hitting the car behind them. The Safety Car is deployed.

In lap 18, we go racing at full speed once again! George Russell takes the inside of the red Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton, his former teammate, sending George to 8th! Hamilton then regains the position back from George, resulting in George almost colliding with Esteban Ocon!

The Safety Car is out once more for the second Racing Bulls of the event, Isack Hadjar. Isack, trying his best to see with little to no visibility, rear ended fellow rookie Kimi Antonelli, which sends him spinning off the track and into the wall. The entire Racing Bulls garage can be heard sighing in unison at the sight of their two cars. Kimi Antonelli also has to retire his car due to the damage inflicted by Isack.

Just as the Safety Car is about to end, Oscar Piastri abruptly brakes, which in turn, makes Max pass him without realizing it. Max quickly brakes to go back to his rightful 2nd position. Max lets his engineers know how he feels about it though. Because, technically, what Oscar did is an illegal move in the world of F1, so the FIA will have to look into it.

3 laps later, the safety car ends and we’re racing around Silverstone once again! The literal second that the safety car ends, Max Verstappen spins out and drops down to 9th position! If the man who has won this race times is spinning out, we should be worried! Oscar is issued a ten second time penalty for impeding the Safety Car!

In lap 30, Lewis Hamilton goes for the inside and passes the Alpine of Pierre Gasly for 5th position!

5 laps later, we see a phenomenon happen on the Silverstone Circuit! Stake Sauber driver Nico Hulkenberg, who started P19, has worked his way up the grid to an outstanding fourth place. Being the driver who is famously known for having the most race starts without a single podium finish in his entire career, Nico is so close to victory at last that he can taste it. 4th just won’t do. He goes around the outside of Lance Stroll and claims third position! This is the German’s 239th race! Hopefully he can hold onto this place and make history! Lewis Hamilton then makes the move to pass Lance Stroll and claim 4th. He does so, now the path to Hulkenberg is clear, besides the spray from his car which quite disrupts his vision!

Max Verstappen, after climbing up two positions, comes up on Pierre Gasly. He easily goes around the inside and claims 6th place!

In lap 44, Oscar Piastri heads into the pit lane to change his tires and take his 10 second time penalty. After spending an excruciatingly long time in the pit, he exits. He reenters the race in second place after being passed by his teammate. Our new race leader is none other than hometown hero, Lando Norris.

Oliver Bearman is currently the only rookie still in the race. He goes around the inside in a failed attempt to pass his teammate, Esteban Ocon. They make contact and are both sent spinning off the track in perfect unison. Sometimes I wonder whether F1 is racing or dancing, because I tell you what, these drivers sure are primadonnas who love to show off their pirouette skills! They are both able to recover and continue racing.

In lap 45, our lead driver heads into the pit. Lando exits the pit lane with little time left to spare. Oscar is currently 5.8 seconds behind! Just as Oscar tells his race engineer that he thinks he and Lando should swap the positions, he slides off the track. He quickly recovers.

1 lap later, Charles Leclerc, yet again, makes his way off the track and into the gravel. Currently P14, this is not the Monegasque’s day today.

Lando Norris holds onto the lead for the remaining 6 laps of this race! He sees the checkered flag first! Lando Norris wins the British Grand Prix! A home win that he would “trade all of his other wins for” according to Lando himself! Luckily for Lando, he gets to keep all of his previous race wins and have this one as well!

Oscar Piastri scores 2nd place, but in post race interviews, he expresses how he feels he should have won the race and that the penalty was unfair. Hopefully, he just accepts it and lets his teammate revel in this extraordinary win!

Another outstanding achievement would be that of Nico Hulkenberg crossing the line in 3rd place and scoring his first ever podium in his entire F1 career! Starting in 19th and working his way up to a podium finish, Nico was rightfully given the title of “Driver of the Day”.

After receiving trophies made entirely of Lego, the drivers had a race debrief. Oscar asked Nico how he felt about waiting 14 years for a trophy just for it to be made out of Lego, Nico responded that he loved Lego and that his daughter could play with it! Such a classy response from the German racer and dad.

Unfortunately, we have 3 weeks off until the next one, but a lot of drama is circulating the track right now, so we are sure to stay busy until then!
