the british grand prix: qualifying

Top of the morning to you all and welcome to the 2025 British Grand Prix! Being the oldest circuit in the campaign, we have been racing around Silverstone for 75 years! This Grand Prix also marks the home race of 4 of our drivers, Lando Norris, Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, and Oliver Bearman!

q1

Before we begin, we have to acknowledge just how tricky this circuit is. It’s rains very often on the Silverstone blacktop, so racing conditions tend to get a little slippery! With 8 minutes left in Q1, Alpine rookie Franco Colapinto is making his way around the track when he spins out and heads into the gravel! He hits the barrier and is out of qualifying!

36 seconds remain to determine who will be unfortunate enough to place in the drop zone. Lewis Hamilton’s engineers tell him to pit for fuel, but he argues it because there isn’t much time left to score a better position than his current P12. Isack Hadjar bumps up to 8th and his teammate, Liam Lawson, completes his lap and narrowly escapes the claws of the bottom 5. Lawson moving up sends Carlos Sainz to the drop zone. Yet to finish his lap, Carlos flies through the track, scoring the fastest first sector of any driver so far! He crosses the line and jumps to P8!

We turn to Pierre Gasly, currently P20, who passes the finish line and hops out of last place to take P15, sending Liam Lawson back down to 16th place.

The drivers eliminated in Q1 are Liam Lawson (Racing Bulls), Gabriel Bortoleto (Sauber), Lance Stroll (Aston Martin), Nico Hulkenberg (Sauber), and Franco Colapinto (Alpine).

q2

With less than a minute left of Q2, hometown hero Lewis Hamilton leads the 15 remaining drivers with a time of 1:25:084.

Kimi Antonelli finds himself in the drop zone, 14th place, to be exact. He races through the circuit and comes over the line and improves to P8. His teammate, George Russell, another British favorite, completes his last lap of Q2 and secures P9.

Pierre Gasly sets a good enough time to take him to 9th position.

The unfortunate victims to Q2 are Carlos Sainz (Williams), Yuki Tsunoda (Red Bull), Isack Hadjar (Racing Bulls), Alex Albon (Williams), and Esteban Ocon (Haas).

q3

The four-time world champion, Max Verstappen, speeds through the turns and straights of the Silverstone circuit, and has an amazing middle sector. He sets the fastest lap of Q3, but there is still 8 minutes on the clock, anything could happen!

Both Papaya drivers begin their laps. Oscar Piastri flies through the circuit. The man from Melbourne has already had 4 pole positions this year, but make that a potential 5th! Oscar crosses the line and replaces his opponent at the top of the grid! Oscar Piastri to pole!

Next to cross the line is Oscar’s teammate, Lando Norris! He comes across the line and takes 2nd away from Verstappen! If this maintains, we might see a McLaren 1-2 on the podium tomorrow!

Here comes Lando’s fellow Briton! George Russell claimed pole position at this fabled race last year, can he do it again? No he can’t. The Mercedes driver only manages 4th. But there’s still 7 minutes left in qualifying, anything can happen!

We now turn to the Ferrari drivers. Charles Leclerc crosses the line and takes fourth place from George, but Lewis Hamilton finishes his lap and catapults to second! What an outstanding lap from the man who has seen the checkered flag first at this circuit on 9 different Grand Prix occasions!

We pick up with 30 seconds left of 2025 British Grand Prix qualifying. Piastri maintains pole, but Lewis Hamilton is fast approaching with a fastest middle sector!

As George Russell replaces his former teammate for 2nd position, Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, and Lewis Hamilton make their way around the track. Lando is the first the see the finish line out of the three. He is only able to improve to 2nd. Lando’s teammate and rival for the championship comes next! Already on pole, Oscar races through the final turn and hits the curb! He doesn’t improve but maintains pole position. Oscar’s luck may have just ran out, though! Lewis Hamilton comes soaring through the turns, but he barely misses out and only manages fourth.

Now with no time left on the clock, the drivers that have yet to finish their last laps of qualifying now race to do so! Max Verstappen absolutely flies on the track. After securing the fastest sector 2 award, Max Verstappen crosses the line with exceptional speed! Max Verstappen takes pole position at the British Grand Prix! What a fantastic drive from the Dutch world champion! Simply Lovely!
