Hello everyone! After a weekend off of the sport we all know and love, Formula 1 is back! This time in Italy! Here is everything you need to know about Practice 1, which happened earlier today.
fp1
Welcome to the Imola circuit! McLaren is still in the lead, in case you were wondering! No surprise that the Australian driver Oscar Piastri quickly set the fastest lap. He was just out of reach of his teammate, Lando Norris, who was three hundredths behind. Williams, another team that has been slowly getting better, briefly lost their Thai driver Alex Albon to the gravel and grass, but he recovered, ending in P8. Unlike his fellow driver, Carlos Sainz powered through and made a fantastic P3 finish. Finally, we get to see Sainz proving himself in his Williams car after he received the shaft from Ferrari last season. Out performing his former team is quite an accomplishment for the Madrilenian driver. Speaking of former teams, Ferrari experienced quite a few mishaps in their first home race of the season! Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc drove off the track on various occasions and sent gravel flying, he finished P12. His new teammate, world champion Lewis Hamilton, completely left the track and started driving on the grass! He later told his race engineer that his brakes weren’t working properly. Even with brake problems, the British driver finished in 5th position. Alpine racing, who has experienced a lot of change in their team over the past 2 weeks, welcomed Franco Colapinto as their new driver. Colapinto flirted with danger when he blocked Red Bull driver Yuki Tsunoda from continuing at his normal speed, earning a flip of the middle finger from the Japanese driver. The Argentine racer met the gravel twice, landing him in 17th position. His more experienced teammate, Pierre Gasly, ended in P6. Kimi Antonelli, the rookie who is celebrating his first ever home race, made sure that his classmates were there to cheer him on! Even giving them all Merecedes merchandise when they are most likely Ferrari fans, like everyone in Italy! He drove a very clean lap, besides his teammate George Russell letting the engineers know that there was excessive wear on a piece of Antonelli’s car, just a father checking up on his son! George finished P4 with Kimi in P13. Red Bull racing can’t seem to get their car in perfect condition! Max Verstappen always finds something wrong with the car, sometimes things that aren’t noticeable to the average spectator, but this time was different. He told his race engineer what he felt was wrong with the car, and then he immediately skidded around a turn. Hopefully the engineers can locate the problem and fix it in time for FP3! Verstappen finished 7th with Yuki Tsunoda in 16th. The session ended a little bit early but not too early for Stake driver Gabriel Bortoleto to get acquainted with the barrier. He oversteered and ended up in the wall. It wasn’t a massive impact, and the Brazilian driver still found himself finishing in 9th place! He is followed by his teammate in 10th.
