miami sprint race highlights

Hello everyone! The Miami grand prix is almost underway, but before I can comment on it, we have to take a second to review the sprint race! Here is everything you need to know.

the race

As we all remember, the 18 year old rookie Kimi Antonelli started this race from the coveted pole position. He was followed by both Papaya drivers, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, who were in second and third.

Unlike the weather of sprint qualifying, the actual sprint race was very wet, which makes the track slippery, so this race certainly wasn’t boring!

Right out of the gate, the McLaren cars overwhelmed Antonelli. He ended up making a wide turn and lost a few places. Oscar Piastri then took the lead! Not a surprise for the WDC leader!

In lap 5, Esteban Ocon and Carlos Sainz had quite the battle! Sainz , 13th, made the move to pass Ocon, 12th. He succeeded in his overtake but Ocon quickly regained his original place back. Even though it was for 12th place, we love to see the ambition and action from drivers farther back on the grid! In lap 8, Sainz yet again passed Ocon, but he made a wide turn and Ocon passed him once more, this time for good.

During lap 13, a yellow flag was issued due to Sainz clipping the wall. Both Max Verstappen and Kimi Antonelli were in the pit lane when the flag waved. Verstappen made to exit the pit lane at the same time that Antonelli was trying to enter it. The two drivers collided into each other, causing damage to the front wing of the Dutchman’s car.

At the front of the race, Piastri and Norris were battling for first, but Oscar held on!

Max Verstappen had to pit once again to fix the damage to his car and serve a 10-second penalty for an unsafe release which resulted in the world champion-rookie collision.

Oscar Piastri entered the pit lane and Lando Norris takes first!

Lewis Hamilton stole third position from Verstappen, showing off his skills and reminding everyone that even though Verstappen is a recent champion, he has almost double the world championships as Max. What an amazing driver! The real question is, can he hold onto 3rd and secure a podium finish for Ferrari? Yes he can! Lewis holds onto 3rd!

As Norris pits, Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso collides with Liam Lawson, sending him into the wall, inflicting damage to his car that is beyond repair. Norris started exiting the pit lane just as the safety car was deployed. He was under pressure to arrive at the track before his Aussie teammate passed him, because the race would finish before the safety car left, the order of the drivers when the safety car deployed was the finishing grid, so whoever arrived first would be the winner. Piastri or Norris? Who will it be? Lando Norris holds on to first!

Lando Norris wins the Miami sprint race! He is followed by Oscar Piastri and Lewis Hamilton! I am beginning to think that the Miami circuit is the British driver’s lucky race. After winning here for the first time in his career last year, he then wins the sprint race here this year!!

Alex Albon secures P4, George Russell P5, Lance Stroll P6, and Liam Lawson P7. Rookie Ollie Bearman lands 8th, with Red Bull racer Yuki Tsunoda behind him in 9th. Starting the race in 1st, Kimi Antonelli ended it in 10th place, still a fantastic drive from the Italian! He rounds out our top ten!!

The clock for the start of the Miami grand prix is slowly ticking away! Talk to you later! xx
