the bahrain grand prix

Today, the Formula 1 Bahrain grand prix was held! There was plenty of action and a ton of penalties were dished out, here is everything you need to know!

qualifying

Oscar Piastri scored pole position, the first time that a McLaren has ever done so at the Bahrain circuit! Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc followed closely behind in P2, with George Russell in P3 (George originally secured second place but earned a 1 grid penalty when he failed to follow race director’s instructions while in the pit lane, the same happened for his teammate Kimi Antonelli) Pierre Gasly decided it was time to start driving good again and landed position 4, and Kimi Antonelli got down-graded to P5 after a 1 grid penalty. The second papaya driver Lando Norris secured 6th with world champion Max Verstappen on his tail in P7. The Smooth Operator Carlos Sainz in P8, with another world champion, Sir Lewis Hamilton, following in 9th. The new Red Bull driver Yuki Tsunoda completes our top ten!

the race

It’s lights out and away we go once more! Piastri held onto pole position right out of the gate, only giving it up when he had to pit. Lando quickly climbed 3 places but was issued a five-second penalty when it was discovered that his car inched forward out of his starting position on the grid, giving him a slight advantage over his fellow drivers.

There were more over-takes in this race than I could keep track of, but the most memorable one was when the young rookie Kimi Antonelli passed Max Verstappen, it really shows how remarkable Kimi is going to be in coming years. Charles Leclerc’s engineers made the decision to give him medium tires to start the race when almost every other driver started on soft tires. An interesting strategy, no doubt! Even though we aren’t sure what the engineers were trying to accomplish, the Monogausque driver finished in P4. There were a couple of collisions, making for a very entertaining race! Yuki Tsunoda and Carlos Sainz barely bumped into each-other, bringing out the safety car. Carlos unfortunately had to retire his car due to the damage it endured, meaning that Carlos fell to the heart aching position P20.

In lap 52, Lando Norris executed in making it back into position 3 after giving it up due to the 5 second penalty placed on him, putting him back into the lead for the Driver’s Championship!

Many penalties were given to drivers who exceeded the track limits, as well as Liam Lawson being put under inspection for forcing another driver off the track.

In the last lap, Lando tried with all his might to pass his fellow Brit George Russell, but he just couldn’t do it.

Oscar Piastri won the Bahrain grand prix! The first time a McLaren has ever won at this circuit! George Russell secured 2nd place with Lando Norris in 3rd place. George Russell was put under investigation for activating DRS outside of the area of the track that was designated for DRS, but in a post-race interview, Russell told reporters that the buttons in his car weren’t working properly on his steering wheel, so when he went to turn on his mic to talk to his engineers, DRS activated. He immediately turned it off. Nothing was gained or lost, so the charges were dropped.

Charles Leclerc in 4th with his teammate Sir Lewis Hamilton in 5th. Max Verstappen finished in 6th with Frenchman Pierre Gasly following in 7th. Speaking of Frenchman, Esteban Ocon secured 8th place with Yuki Tsunoda behind him. Ollie Bearman started the race in last place but finished in position 10, the only rookie within the points!

Thank you for tuning in! What a spectacular race! Next up, Saudi Arabia!!
