It’s lights out and away we go once more! The 2025 Chinese Grand Prix kicked off this Sunday, and if you live in the US like me, the race was very late into the night, so I stayed up to watch it live so you didn’t have to!
the race
Oscar Piastri led the race with George Russell and Lando Norris behind him. Once the five red lights went out, all 20 drivers began driving like lighting! Piastri held on to first for a very long time. Lando passed George Russell taking him into second. Lando kept quite a distance from his teammate because he “wanted to stay out of Oscar’s dirty air and not mess up is tires.” At one point in the race, Williams driver Alex Albon led the race for quite some time. Albon celebrated his 29th birthday the day of the race so I thought while watching that he would win the race for his birthday, but that didn’t last for long because Oscar quickly gained first again. Fernando Alonso had to retire his car very early on into the race because his brakes were on fire. Luckily, Alonso was the only driver that had to retire his car. Rookie Bearman started the race in 17th place, but ended up in 10th by the end of the Grand Prix. I think that we can expect to see great things from him. Jack Doohan received a 10 second penalty for forcing Isack Hadjar off the track. Isack maintained a consistent pace in 15th behind Doohan in 14th, but when the penalty was applied at the end of the race, Hadjar swapped with the Aussie and made it to 14th. Oscar Piastri won the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix! Teammate Norris 2nd with George Russell completing the podium!
disqualifications
New information came out after the Grand Prix ended. Charles Leclerc, Lewis Hamilton, and Pierre Gasly have all been disqualified from the Chinese Grand Prix. Leclerc and Gasly’s cars were found to be under the weight limit and Lewis Hamilton’s car was found to have excessive wear on its skid block, which is a wooden plank beneath the car that protects the floor of the car. Having both of their cars disqualified, things aren’t looking too great for Ferrari. Hopefully next time their cars will be in perfect condition so that things won’t get too confusing!
2 races down and 22 more to go! See you in Japan!!!
